Ms Mieko Inotsume
In 1990, while shopping in one of the craft shop in Japan, Ms Mieko came across
Japanese Clay, as the creations from Japanese Clay interests her, she made enquiries
with the shop assistant who introduced, Ms Aieko Tomita, a Japanese teacher
specializes in Clay making. Ms Mieko went for an intensive one year training and after
she settled down in Singapore she still intermittently continues to learn the craft
from Ms Aieko whenever she returns to Japan for vacation.
She has over 100 students from her more than 15 years of teaching. Ms Mieko is a
very patient and meticulous teacher. She makes sure all her students know every
process in making the clay flower. She speaks fluently in Japanese and is conversant
in Mandarin.
Apart from teaching, Ms Mieko also takes part in Japanese Clay Exhibition in both
Japan and Singapore. On the left is one of her greatest creations that she likes the
most.
Ms Pauline Goh
Pauline is one of the pioneers in spreading and sharing Folk Art and Decorative Painting in Singapore. In mid
1990s, she made several trips to America, England and Australia to learn and expand her knowledge of this
Craft. Over the years she has explored painting on different surfaces which include wood, fabric, rock, glass,
ceramic, plastic and metal!
Since 1996, Pauline has been sharing the joy of painting through invitations to demonstrate at various clubs,
fairs and also through teaching. Her classes attracted students from neighboring countries and as far as
France, America, Bahrain and Japan. Her sharing, reassuring and responsible nature makes learning enjoyable
and relaxing. Her passion is to inspire and motivate her students to their best potential.
Seeing her students enjoying their painting sessions and presenting their painted items as gifts or for
personal use give Pauline great satisfaction.
In 1999, one of her students won the 1st prize in a painting competition organised by IKEA. In the same
year, another group of her students also won 1st prize in a Mural Painting competition organised by
Tampines GRC.
